Stiff and unbending is the principle of death.
Gentle and yielding is the principle
of life.
Thus an army without flexibility never wins a battle.
A tree that is unbending is
easily broken.
The hard and strong will fall.
The soft and weak will overcome.
(Dao de Ching)
The gentle T’ai Chi method is the real T’ai Chi method.

‘You Can’t Be Spontaneous If You Can’t let Go’
Generally T’ai Chi Ch’uan (Taijiquan) is known for its graceful and flowing movements and has become popular as an effective antidote to our stressful lives. With dedicated study we move to an understanding and use of yielding and relaxation to integrate mind and body to a deeper state of being. In turn this naturally brings more health and longevity to our lives. Taijiquan has been described as meditation in movement. The History of Taijiquan is Chinese in origin. There are a number of styles of T’ai Chi, named after the Chinese families involved. Serene Sea follows the revised Yang styles of Cheng Man-Ch'ing, Huang Sheng-Shyan and Dr Chi Chiang Tao, all grand masters of their art.
Taijiquan is a form of martial art, but today the approach is more often to emphasise health and well being, making it accessible to all. Taiji upholds those principles rooted in Chinese Daoist philosophy using softness and relaxation aimed at bringing the individual into harmony with the universe.
